Each year, invited speakers for the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) congenital program provide important updates regarding state-of-the-art techniques and advances in procedures and thought. Along with their co-authors, a number of these leaders have provided important educational manuscripts for the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual. In this edition, we cover advances in technique, advances in current applications, synthesis of two vexing topics, and how to care for a segment of our complex adult congenital patients using up-to-date techniques and tools. Much of what is written is essential, new, and/or evolving thought put together in a way that helps to interpret original manuscripts.
