As we celebrate the 2022 Annual Meeting of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery,
held in person after years of virtual meetings required by the pandemic, it is a pleasure
to reflect upon the educational insights that arise in the vibrant ‘in-person’ forum
provided by the AATS. Although collegial learning at the Annual Meeting is extremely
valuable, time limitations often prevent the speakers from going into great depth
in the discussion of topics of interest. In contrast, the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual provides an ‘in-print’ forum where issues at the forefront of congenital heart surgery
can be probed and explored in extensive detail. I hope that you will enjoy the work
included in this issue of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual—and sincerely thank the authors for their dedication to sharing their expertise and
providing insights to help us provide better care for our patients. In this issue
of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Annual, we have several areas of focus that I hope you will enjoy.
